Unemployment

The average unemployment for Platte County is 3.24% over the past 5 years. The average unemployment is 3.56%, that occurred between 1999-2009, with the highest unemployment rate at 4.78% occurring in 2003. 
 

Commuting

Under 15 minutes…that is how long of a commute you will have to get to your job! If you live within the City limits, it will seldom take you more than 15 minutes to get to another destination within the city. There are also some wonderful smaller communities within commuting distance of Columbus. Most are 30 minutes or less from Columbus. Over 3000 people commute to work in Columbus each day from the many surrounding communities in our area. 

 

Hospital

Columbus Community Hospital (CCH) has been in their new facility since August 2002. The hospital at 4600 - 38 Street in Columbus is a 47-bed acute care facility with 4 skilled nursing beds and 14 same-day services beds. CCH also provides health care at a clinic in Humphrey. CCH collaborates with a medical community of over 40 physicians or surgeons, a public health department and employs more than 550 people while utilizing some 300 volunteers. All major specialties are represented including 24-hour emergency service.

Columbus continues moving forward!

Columbus Community Hospital has announced plans for a Community Health & Wellness Center, housing rehab services and the Columbus Family YMCA. In conjunction with the center, a new Child Development Center is also planned. 

The $6.5-million Pawnee Plunge water park gets an expansion including an outdoor pool to go with the original lay-out including water slides, a lazy river, and many interactive features. 

Columbus has welcomed Valmont Newmark and SiDump'r to our industrial community. 

Columbus Community Hospital has completed a major expansion to their current campus, keeping on the cutting-edge of medical technology and practices. 

Columbus is home to one of the world's largest ethanol-producing facilities at ADM-Columbus Corn Processing. 

The Columbus Family Resource Center has opened in the former hospital building, bringing together workforce and human-service agencies in a one-stop center for help. 

The Lost Creek Parkway now rings the north side of Columbus with convenient traffic flow from one side of town to the other. 

Numerous retail and commercial developments have opened their doors and downtown Columbus is undergoing a significant "face-lift." 

Three new viaducts are planned for Columbus in the next decade. 

The Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce built its first new headquarters building since 1968, now welcoming members and visitors at 753 33rd Avenue.
